Active Safari - Yoga

Yoga Safari with Mama Tembo Tours and Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge

Yoga is great after a safari when you are vehicle bound for long hours every day, or after climbing Tanzania's Mts Kilimanjaro, Meru or Lengai. Stacia Leach of Ngare Sero Lodge will lead you through a private Hatha yoga class by the lake at Ngare Sero Lodge or at her eco-camp at Lake Natron. But what about daily yoga and meditation practice under Stacia's guidance and instruction while you are on safari? This is a wonderful way to connect with the landscapes and wildlife you have come so far to experience. For more about Stacia go to www.ngare-sero-lodge.com/yoga_safari2.htm.

July – October Itinerary:

Day One: You are met at Kilimanjaro International Airport near the northern Tanzanian city of Arusha, the country's thriving safari hub, and transferred to your accommodation Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge. The lodge, on the slopes of Mount Meru near Arusha National Park, is set in lush gardens amidst forest and near a crystal clear spring. Hundreds of bird species have been recorded around the lodge and troops of Sykes and Colobus monkeys inhabit the forests. The lodge was created from a farmhouse built turn of the century and has just ten rooms. Your lodge hosts. Tim and Stacia Leach, in collaboration with nearby villages, are dedicated to the conservation of the forest around their lodge and the protection of the vital spring on which so many people depend. For all of the lodge's activities and attractions see www.ngare-sero-lodge.com.

Day Two: Student consultations with Stacia, followed by 30 min massage, followed by cultural village walk in the vicinity of the lodge to learn about the Wameru people who live on the slopes of Mt Meru.

Day Three: Travel to Arusha National Park for a meditation class inside an ash cone crater. You will be transported to a point in the park from where you will go on foot into the crater. The walk takes about 45 minutes. Arusha National Park is green and verdant, only 137 square kilometers, and contains 4566 meter high Mount Meru, Tanzania's second highest mountain after Mt Kilimanjaro.

Day Four: Early yoga class at the lodge, afterwards depart for Mtu wa Mbu village for cultural tour. Arrive at Gibbs Farm in the Mbulu Highlands, the foothills of the Ngorongoro Highlands, for a late lunch. Set among English gardens, the farmhouse and 20 cottages form the heart of a working farm where organic coffee is grown and processed as well organic fruit and vegetables. For the rest of the day, enjoy the view from the gardens, afternoon tea, a guided walk in the highland forest, or the farm's new spa where treatments are based on indigenous Maasai plants and healing knowledge. Overnight at Gibb's Farm. For more information see www.gibbsfarm.net.

Day Five: Today, the Ngorongoro Crater awaits, one of the world's largest calderas with a floor 600 meters below its rim, and home to a long list of East African wildlife. Only giraffes are missing; they cannot negotiate such steep walls. The crater offers the best chances of seeing endangered Black rhino. It will be a long and exhilarating day. Return to Gibb's Farm for overnight.

Day Six: Early yoga, afterwards depart for Manyara Airstrip for flight to Kogatende area of the Northern Serengeti. Stay at luxury seasonal Sayari Camp which is the only camp in this part of the Northern Serengeti located to see the annual wildebeest migration as it passes into Kenya. www.asilialodges.com

The camp provides a high level of comfort in this remote and rarely visited area. Late afternoon meditation on lake flats.
